Does Dinotefuran Kill Earwigs?

Why Do Earwigs Love Damp Corners?

Earwigs are drawn to damp corners because of how their bodies work and what they need to survive.

The Biology Behind It

Earwigs have a cuticle that doesn't hold moisture well. In dry conditions, they lose water rapidly. If they don't stay somewhere with at least 60% humidity, they'll dehydrate and die. So they instinctively seek out high-humidity hiding spots.

Where Earwigs Like to Hang Out

  1. Bathrooms — under the sink, behind the toilet, shower corners, around floor drains
  2. Kitchens — under the sink, beneath the dishwasher, around drain pipes
  3. Basements — wall corners, under storage shelves, around window sills
  4. Balconies — under plant saucers, near drain outlets
  5. Outdoors — under rocks, in piles of bricks, beneath rotting wood, in leaf litter

Humidity and Earwig Populations

Earwig numbers rise with humidity — the damper your home, the more earwigs you'll see. Conversely, if you bring the humidity down, earwigs can't survive and will leave on their own.

What to Do

  • Run the exhaust fan after using the bathroom or kitchen
  • Open windows after mopping so floors dry completely
  • Use a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity below 50%
  • Fix leaky pipes and faucets
  • After watering plants, dump standing water out of saucers
  • Clear leaves and weeds from around the outside of your foundation

Dryness Is the Real Solution

With no water and no humidity, earwigs will head elsewhere. Fixing the environment works better in the long run than spraying alone.
