How to eliminate clothes moth larvae?

Step 1: Remove all clothing

Take all clothes out of the wardrobe. Thoroughly wash infested clothing, preferably in water above 60°C or dry-clean. Water above 60°C kills all larvae and eggs. For non-washable items (e.g., cashmere sweaters, silk scarves), seal in plastic bags and freeze for at least one week (below -18°C) — low temperatures also kill larvae and eggs. After freezing, leave at room temperature for a day, then freeze again for another week, to ensure any eggs not fully killed in the first freeze are eliminated.

Step 2: Deep clean the wardrobe

After emptying the wardrobe, vacuum all crevices and corners, paying special attention to rice-sized cocoons and webbing. Then wipe down shelves, drawers, and corners repeatedly with a damp cloth to remove dust and possible eggs. Clothes moths lay many eggs — up to a hundred at a time — so thorough wiping is important. Also vacuum carpet edges and baseboards.

Step 3: Chemical treatment

Spray dinotefuran-containing household insecticide on wardrobe joints, shelf slots, drawer slides, and door hinges — these are the most common hiding places for larvae and eggs. After spraying, wait for the insecticide to dry completely before returning clothes. It is recommended to store treated clothes in sealed bags or vacuum compression bags, and check them every 1-2 months thereafter.
