Where Do Cockroaches Come From?
Where Do Cockroaches Like to Hide?
Cockroaches love dark, warm, humid places with access to food. They hide in these spots during the day and stay out of sight.
Key Inspection Points
- Kitchen: Under cabinets, beneath the sink, beside the refrigerator compressor, behind the microwave, the gap between the stove and counter
- Bathroom: Behind the water heater, inside vanity cabinets, the gap at the base of the toilet, around floor drains
- Other areas: Behind the washing machine, under storage cabinets, baseboard gaps, inside electrical panels, inside appliances
- Roaches prefer warm environments of 20-30 degrees C (68-86 degrees F), which is why areas around heat-producing appliances are especially attractive
How to Gauge the Infestation Level
- A few droppings (small black specks): scattered roach activity — best to treat early
- Multiple egg cases (small brown capsule shapes): they've been breeding for a while
- Dead roaches or shed skins: the population density is already significant
- Roaches visible during the day: numbers are very high, the nest is overcrowded
How to Confirm
Use a flashlight during the day to check these areas — you may spot roach droppings (black specks), egg cases, and shed skins. Turn off the lights for 1-2 hours at night, then suddenly switch them back on and check — you're more likely to catch roaches actively moving. If you find these signs, take control measures immediately.
